Track Lighting Can Be Easy and Efficient
Most people working in offices today are using their sense of site for 95% of their workload. Reading, typing, filing, computer related tasks, proofing, and even reading others’ facial expressions require our eyes to constantly be working. For this reason, correct office lighting is directly related to the efficiency of the office.
Correct office lighting is a combination of daylight, general lighting and task lighting. While some lighting needs will be fulfilled in an office with the clean and broad rays of the sun, other requirements can only be met by specific and personalized task lighting. Neither of these light sources is sufficient, however, to illuminate the entire office. For this job, general lighting is necessary. Each light source has its specific benefits, and the proper balance of all three sources will lead to happier, healthier employees and enhanced productivity overall.
What is track lighting? The term refers to rail-based systems that offer flexibility and consistency. Instead of installed recessed lighting or permanent fixtures, track lighting gives you a single line along which you can place lights in any configuration. Bunch them together at one end, space them evenly throughout or create something of a hybrid to match the art on your walls – it’s your choice. Most systems can be adjusted quickly with little more than a stepstool and a manual twist, offering modular and flexible options on a daily basis. You may even want to switch the lighting scheme as you change the rest of your room around – a cinch with today’s simple fasteners.
One of the great advantages of track lighting is that the lights can be controlled individually or en masse. If you want a romantic ambiance and spot lighting, you can select one or two bulbs and leave the rest dormant. Conversely you can set a wall into dazzling brilliance simply by lighting the full array at once – a breathtaking effect with the proper hanging pieces. Enterprising homeowners occasionally even swap bulbs out to create something of a staggered effect, keeping some brighter and the rest at a cooler burn.
Is there a limit to how many lights I can have on a track system?
Yes. There is a general One-light-per-one-foot of track rule to prevent fixtures from being
too cluttered. Line Voltage systems have a limit of around 1900 watts for a single run.
Low-voltage systems require a transformer and not more than 300 watts (6- to 50-watt
fixtures) can be on any single run of track. Multiple low-voltage systems can be installed
together but must be electrically separated using an isolating connector and the
systems must have separate power supplies. A Dual Feed transformer can also be
used to increase the total wattage to 600 (300 watts in 2 directions) from a single
power source.
Track lighting fixtures are very practical in the home. You can install track lighting in any tight space or hard to reach areas. The uniqueness of the track lighting is its capability to perform many functions making it extremely versatile. The track will supplies power all along its length, making it possible for you to place the heads any way you desire. A certified Cypress Electrician in the area will be beneficial in ensuring all electrical installations are done correctly. A Cypress TX Electrician should be trained in all aspects of home lighting and should be able to assist you at the drop of a dime.
