What Is The Impact Of Paint Colors On The Eyes?

By Paul James Harrison

Our world is a place very rich in colors. The clear skies and the sea are always associated with the color blue; green reminds us of playing in the grass; red is the color for blood and it associated with the intensity of love. Places which are forbidden to us are usually marked with red. Distinguishing colors is very useful for us, especially when driving. Persons with difficulties in the recognition of colors sometimes feel disabled.

In the outside world colors are supposed to have a violent impact on us, to draw our attention toward commercials or traffic signs, but when we get home we expect to find a relaxing and soothing environment. As decorators of our own homes we are free to choose the colors we want to find around us. Nevertheless remember that buying a red dress is not the same with painting your home red. It is known that while a red dress gives you self-confidence, spending a few hours in a red room makes you agitated.

If you choose to be the decorator of your home you should do research regarding the way colors influence our mood when we are exposed to them for a longer period of time. According to a large majority of opinions green or dark green is the most relaxing color for the human eye. This was explained by the way green reminds us of nature with all its abundance of grass and leaves. White is a very relaxing paint color for a room because it was proved that people living in white room rarely loose their temper or have headaches.

Bright colors like yellow, orange or red are not the best choice for your bedroom, but they can embellish places like the kitchen or a playroom. After spending many hours in such a room your eyes will feel tired, but for a shorter period of time the colors will awake you and make you more active. Besides these colors emulsions with bad smell will produce headaches, too.

The paint colors for spaces where you spend many hours should not be tiring for your eyes. Producers offer catalogs with various palettes of colors and even samples which will make your choice easier.
