Why Are You Wasting Energy, When The Draft Stopper Is The Solution?

By Angie Meza

Many different products have been designed to try and help us overcome the problems associated with energy loss in the home. It’s an unfortunate fact of life that every single building that we live in is very porous, even though we might not be able to see this with the naked eye. Of course we cannot live in a sealed box and need windows and doors, as well as a certain amount of natural ventilation, but this does not make for smart energy use.

Dozens of locations around the typical home can account for the loss of expensive conditioned air. In winter, as air tends to rise, we should be sure that the attic door is protected and we have enough insulation in the loft to stave off some of the problems. All the windows and doors around the building must be the focus of attention, as well.

We might know that energy is being wasted, but we might be more than a little concerned about the availability and cost of the various solutions and products available to help. Just remember that the conventional draft stopper is by far the best way to keep that air where it should be. Sure, they’re not the most attractive things to look at, but they are purpose made and cost effective.

A homeowners budget is stretched so thinly during this ongoing recession that we cannot afford to have to deal with the ever increasing cost of energy. Analysts estimate that this is likely to increase by something close to 40% per year in real terms and we should do everything in our power to be energy efficient. Draft stopper products are your first port of call.

You might consider using a thermal detection device to find out where air is leaking around your home. If you can borrow one, all the better, but again you should look at this as an investment. When you find the location of a problem, combine your investment with draft stopper products and you will be ahead of the game.

A thermal detection device works by revealing a significant difference in temperature at certain locations around your doors and windows. When you find that air is filtering in or out, you will know where to put your draft stoppers. At this time, you won’t have to worry about those valuable dollars in that particular location again.

Home heating and cooling experts estimate that we could lose 20% or more of our conditioned air due to poor insulation and efficiency. You should be able to immediately estimate how much this is worth to you in terms of real dollars spent and should make every effort to ensure that your next month’s bill is more appropriate.

An energy efficiency initiative does not have to be an expensive proposition for you. Just remember that the typical draft stopper is made from cost-effective polypropylene and corncob and designed to be perfect for the job.
