If you are redecorating your home, think about using roller shades for the windows. They come in a wide variety of fabrics, are versatile, and are easy to clean. They can be customized easily to continue the design of any living space.
Roll-up shades are controlled in two different ways. There are chain pull window shades and spring lift window shades. Only the mechanism is different. The shade portion is the same.
Spring lift window shades are the budget friendly version. The shade recoils when you pull on the bottom hem. Most will recoil completely, not allowing much choice in the amount of light that comes into a room. They are more likely to malfunction if pulled on with too much force, bending the spring mechanism and effectively breaking the shade. These are a great choice for bedrooms for kids because of their durability. Other, more expensive window coverings can be more dangerous and break with less effort than spring lift window shades. There is no cord that they could possibly harm themselves with or that they could accidentally play with, breaking the spring mechanism.
The more expensive type is the chain pull shade. These are usually longer lasting than the other. These are controlled by pulling a cord which is attached to the cross beam where the shade attaches. When the cord is pulled, the shade will either rise or fall. This mechanism is very simple and rarely needs any kind of repair. They are far more versatile since you can easily adjust the shade to only cover part of the window, allowing you to create the exact feeling you want in the room.
These types of window shades are available in a plethora of fabric choices. You can find shades made of Mylar, mesh weaves, vinyl, or more traditional fabrics. Fabrics are available in a multitude of different colors, prints, and patterns. You should also be able to clean your shades with the soft brush attachment from your vacuum or a damp cloth, but be careful to check the label to see how the material should be cleaned.
Other alternatives may come in waterproof materials, ideal for use in high moisture areas like a bathroom. You can also purchase a blackout backing. This will block any light from entering the room when the shade is drawn. This is ideal for city dwellers suffering from sleepless nights due to light pollution. These premium fabrics do come with a premium price tag, but can easily be well worth the extra money.
Roller shades are easily customized to match your existing decor, or to change the look of a room. You can add borders in a contrasting fabric or color, fabrics with designs or patters, or recover the entire shade. You can even attach one of your favorite posters or photographs to the shade. This process is easily done with a needle and thread or safety pins. Installing these types of window shades is fairly simple. Instructions should be straightforward and may include the tools you will need. Most can be installed using only a screwdriver.
Always think about your window coverings when designing the decor for your home. Make sure you enhance the design with your roller shades. They are a great alternative to traditional curtains or window shades. You will give your home a modern and refined look. You can easily update or change them, purchase them at a budget friendly price, and complete the design you want for your home.
