Prepaid Legal Services Plan-What Do I Really Need It For?
By Mr. Roman Bernard Sloan | August 27, 2007
In a life that seems to throw all types of obstacles a person’s way, one often wonders if there is a way to circumvent these things from having such adverse affects on what is considered normal for us.
For health problems we want to feel protected, same for our car and our home; but the protection of our identity and our legal rights fall to the bottom of the list.
This way of thinking is what cause me to investigate a few prepaid legal services organizations. And as I’m looking around at these different prepaid legal providers, I thinking that this may be something that could benefit only a select few of people who have to deal with legal situations.
I ponder on if a prepaid legal serivce plan is something people need to have or is it a product that takes advantage of people’s fear and anxiety about legal matters.
Years ago I used a legal professional because my dad lost his battle with severe illness and I needed help sorting through the final details of his life’s legacy.
The thing is, dad had no updated will so we were kind of left in the dark on what to do. I’m currently reading how some prepaid legal services offer will preparation as one of the cornerstones of what they do.
Getting a will prepared is not something I just think about throughput the course of my day. Maybe it should be because I read somewhere that 70% of people die without a will.
And in contacting several prepaid legal companies they said that their first mission is to help you devise a will as soon as you arm yourself with prepaid legal protection.
From what I understand about most prepaid legal services is that they are basically a voice for those who probably can’t keep an attorney on retainer full time and that turns out to be most people. But I guess a prepaid legal services plan would be like having an entire law firm on retainer.
Even if I had to handle several legal situations at the same time like unsatisfactory work on my home, will preparation, or an unjust charge sent to collections, I would be able to have my prepaid legal law firm handle these things on my behalf.
I could be getting hit with all types of legal situations but I really have none to speak of so getting a prepaid legal service plan wouldn’t really make sense to me now. The only thing that could benefit me now could be the last will and testament preparation if I had a few things to leave behind.
Prepaid legal protection to me is one of those things that you probably want to get but it doesn’t seem advantageous to get until some legal stuff rears its ugly head in your life. Kind of like going to the store the buy the fire extinguisher after the fire is already ablaze at your home.
Roman B. S. tells the tales of those who have either chosen to join a prepaid legal service plan or those who have chosen not to. He thinks that a prepaid legal service plan could work for some people, but not for all.
