Understand health insurance fraud to avoid medical billing fraud:

– Making false diagnosis of a patient’s diseases in order to make a case for the requirements of tests, procedures or surgeries that aren't medically required.
– Up coding or a method in which a process higher in price than what has been done on a patient is put on the bill.
– Billing a patient more than what the co- pay advised and making her pay for services that were pre paid or maybe paid in full under the conditions of a managed care contract.

Following are examples of consumer health care fraud:

– Putting in claims for medical services that have not been received.
– Using somebody else's insurance card or coverage.
– Altering or forging bills or bills.

Following are tips about how to stop and avoid health care fraud and those individuals that might steal your identity:

– Everytime a doctor or health care establishment advocates procedures or services, ask why they are needed and what they cost.
– When doing up claim forms, it is important that you do them one form at a time.

Fill out and write the date to be sure that you don't make any mistakes.

– Don’t trust free tests and promotions with a blinkered eye. There's every chance that they'll make you pay thru the nose.

Why will any person offer you anything for free? Instead whenever you are faced with such adverts make sure you ask about the precise terms before signing.

– Don't give out your health card id or your insurance info to any medical establishment unless you have volunteered to avail of the services offered. Misappropriate usage of such info is not unheard of.
– Use caution with who you give your health insurance information to. They reflect the advantages offered to you.
– If you believe health care fraud by a provider or consumer, ensure you let the authorities know.
