Mississippi Arrest Records

By Claire Dowell

For a state that is inhabited by more than two and a half million people, it is not surprising that almost half of those residents will have criminal records stored in the state of Mississippi’s database. Obtaining Mississippi arrest records or performing criminal background checks in the Magnolia State is relatively easy when you know which agencies or government entities to approach. If you want to access your own criminal history profile for review purposes, there are agencies that can help you with that as well. All you have to do is stick to the procedures and deal with the requirements, and you should be able to get the documents you requested in no time.

In the Magnolia State, the entity that has jurisdiction over all criminal history accounts in the state is the Mississippi State Highway Patrol. Through its Criminal Information Center, which is a division of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, law enforcement agencies throughout the state can access any criminal profile via the agency’s fingerprint identification services. Moreover, the Criminal Information Center also serves as the central repository for all criminal records in the state, so it’s safe to assume that every individual who has had run-ins with the law in this state would most definitely find their profiles in this office.

Every request that is submitted to this office is run through a fingerprint search process. This is because the Criminal Information Center organizes all criminal accounts by fingerprint information. A civilian who wants access to his own criminal profile must submit a fingerprint card containing his fingerprints along with the appropriate request form. The fingerprint card can be obtained at any law enforcement agency and local police station. You can have your fingerprints taken at any of the law enforcement offices as well. Once your fingerprints are taken, you can have it submitted electronically or by mail. Fingerprinting fees may vary between agencies and local law enforcement.

For criminal background checks, civilians without authority are not permitted to avail this kind of service. Only approved government agencies and law enforcement officials have the permission to run third party background checks. Employment agencies, organizations, and entities that deal with childcare, elderly care, the education system, and high security jobs are allowed to access the background check service as well, since it is mandated by the state. Fortunately though, the state’s Department of Health does offer a criminal background check service to ordinary citizens. You can find out what the procedures and requirements are in running criminal background searches by visiting the Mississippi Department of Health website.

Another possible source of comprehensive criminal background information is an independent online criminal record search service. Many reputable criminal record retrieval websites offer unlimited searches of arrest records in Mississippi in exchange for a one-time registration fee. Normally, these types of services maintain a broad collection of criminal records from every state in the country, making the background check process a lot more convenient and time-efficient. You can choose between a state and federal search. The latter will gather every arrest and conviction report of an individual that may have been arrested or convicted in other states, not just in Mississippi. With a single search, you will have gathered every piece of information regarding a person’s entire criminal history.
