A Traditional Wine Rack Guide
Wine has been enjoyed by people for thousands of years. Wine dating back to almost 5,000 years ago has been among recent archaeological finds in China.
The array of wine racks available these days is amazing. For many people, wine has become more than just a hobby. Because of this, wooden wine racks have become popular, and now even metal wine racks are available.
A few styles of metal wine racks also serve as fine decoration pieces: ornate swirls, fanciful loops, or designed to be mounted on a wall.
However, if you want to keep the ideal, tradition calls for wine racks to be made from wood. The most effective wood used for wine racking are soft woods like cedar or pine, which people have been using for hundreds of years.
There are a couple advantages of wood over metal when it comes to wine racking, and the first is that many people are interested in stackable racks. If you intend to add to your wine collection over time, you simply add another stacking unit on top of the old one; this also makes it easy to rotate your inventory. Wood has a second advantage over metal: it insulates the wine from changes in heat. Wine that needs to be stored for prolonged periods in order to age it properly must be protected from heat.
You should ensure that there is no conduction of heat to the wine bottles placed in the rack where it is stored if you are planning to store the wine for longer duration to enable the aging process to take place. This can affect the taste of the wine in a bad way. What a waste that would be! Particularly if you are storing a handful of bottles for a special event a few years down the road.
Wooden, stackable wine racks are the most traditional type of wine rack.
Metal wine racks are acceptable if you plan on keeping your wine for just short amount of time. Metal wine racks are also the way to go if want to purchase an artistic wine rack that is a conversation piece, to be displayed prominently in your home. You may be surprised at how good looking some metal wine racks can be.
