Best Fashion Schools

By Dora Pesh

If you’re interested in a fashion career it’s important to investigate the best fashion schools. There are many schools around the country that specialize in fashion so you have choices among the best fashion schools no matter where you’re located.
Of course, some of the best fashion schools will be located in New York City, which is the fashion capital of the United States. The two best fashion schools in New York City are Parsons School of Design, which got a major PR boost from its association with the television show Project Runway, and Fashion Institute of Technology, which has graduated many well known designers and concentrates entirely on fashion careers, as opposed to Parsons, at which fashion is a department.
Another area that has some of the best fashion schools in the country is the West Coast. Academy of Arts University in San Francisco is a leading fashion school; in fact, they put on a big runway show at New York Fashion Week in Bryant Park every year, which is something none of the other fashion schools do. Academy of Arts University also offers an online program that is taken very seriously and has minimum residency requirements, so if you’re in an area without any of the best fashion schools it’s still a serious option fo you.
Another one of the best fashion schools in California is the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, which has campuses in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Francisco. Apparel Arts in San Francisco is another well-known fashion school in California.
Florida is another hotbed of the best fashion schools, including Miami International University of Art and Design; The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale; and Florida State University in Tallahassee.
The Art Institutes is a chain of schools that’s considered among the best fashion schools and they have a wide variety of campuses; besides multiple locations in California and one in New York, there are also sites in Virginia, Georgia, Texas, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Illinois, Ohio, Colorado, Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, Tennessee, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Washington State, and Florida.
The International Academy of Design and Technology also is one of the best fashion schools and it too has multiple campuses, although not as many as the Art Institutes; their campuses include Chicago; Troy, Michigan; Las Vegas; Nashville; Sacramento; San Antonio; Schamburg, IL; Seattle; Sunnyvale, CA: Tampa; Tucson; Vancouver, BC: and York, PA.
American Intercontinental University is another one of the best fashion schools and it has three campuses: Atlanta, Georgia; Weston, Florida; and an overseas program in London.
Is it important to go to one of the best fashion schools in the United States if you want a career in fashion? Only you can make that choice. Having access to a talented staff with great connections can only help your career in fashion, but there are certainly plenty of people who went to a lesser-known school or even were self-taught that have had rewarding fashion careers.
