Coffee Tables – Decorative Centerpieces

Slate and Artstone – A coffee table is a rather dominant piece, setting the tone and atmosphere for an entire room. That is because it is often used as a focal point, a place over which conversation can be carried. It often is a choice of having elevated usable surfaces between the seating in a living room, rather than just empty space. Having a table present does automatically give you a surface over which you can work, platy, and interact, and so a coffee table actually draws a room together.

When choosing a coffee table, it’s important to know the size limitations of the room where it will be placed. You don’t want to clog up a space, cutting off the flow of the room and creating a stuffy atmosphere. Instead you want to leave at least two to three feet around every edge of the piece. One exception is when a coffee table is butted up against a wall or corner. This can be done to save space in extremely small conditions.

The table should be positioned between seating arrangements, to give people a surface across which to communicate and interact. In this way the piece can actually be a social tool, used to get people to open up to one another.

Decorating a coffee table can be a fun way to add personality and style to a living room or den. Most people just use the space for a book, or some random magazines that will act as entertainment for guests; however others will go all out, creating elaborate centerpieces that stretch across the surface of the table.

One thing to bear in mind is that the more stuff that you keep on your coffee table, the less functional the piece will be. You don’t want to have a table that’s so cluttered that you can’t pull out a board game, or look at photos on it, or even put out munchies for snacks. The table in its essence should be functional, and you should strive to maintain that.
