The Lose Weight Burn Fat Book Reviews: Is This A Healthy Way To Lose Weight: The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone
Is this just another, run of the mill, healthy way to lose weight, burn fat, diet book. I don’t think so. A clue to the read worthiness of any book is often given by the weight of the credentials of the individual giving the foreword. That is, if the author is relatively unknown.
Neal Barnard, M.D., clinical researcher, author, and health advocate gives the foreword in Silverstone’s book. He has been the principal investigator or co-investigator on several clinical trials investigating the effects of diet on health. As the principal investigator of several human clinical research trials,Barnard’s work is published many in peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals.
Dr. Barnard speaks very highly of Alicia Silverstone,s work, “The Kind Diet”. He seems to even suggest this healthy way to lose weight burn fat guide is much more than another diet book. In his opinion, “The Kind Diet” has the capacity to impact everyone on the planet in a very positive way. And that’s a mighty powerful endorsement from one with such stellar credentials. I agree with Dr. Barnhard the book is wonderful, however, I do have just one small issue based on my read of the book.
It has to do with what the book says about the eating of animals. If you occasion MacDonalds or Burger King from time to time and cannot “stomach” the idea of doing away with satisfying that urge for an occasional burger you may not be able to adapt to “The Kind Diet”. The foundation of the book is solidly 100% vegetarianism. Not even chicken breast nor high in omega 3, baked salmon is a possible consideration in the diet. No meat at all.
What I struggled with during my read of “The Kind Diet” was not the validity behind the idea of abstinence from meat for better health. It can be most certainly a healthy way to lose weight and burn fat. Rather, as suggested by the author, it is for philosophical reasons the eating of meat should be removed from our diets.
I just don’t agree that a guilt trip on moral grounds should be imposed on anyone who chooses to eat meat in their diets. “Eating Meat: A Health Issue or Moral Issue”is an article in my personal blog that gives my actual feelings on the morality of choosing to eat meat or not.
For the most part this book provides a healthy way to lose weight, burn fat and feel better. My diet, in fact, is filled with much of what the author suggest we eat. By the way she has some delicious vegan recipes in the last section of the book. You won’t see any chicken helper meal ideas though.
Yes, The Kind Diet is a healthy way to lose weight and burn fat. Even if you attempt but don’t follow its path completely to 100% vegetarianism you will still benefit. Just keep any red meat and junk consumption to a moderate amount. Drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, and by all means never stop consuming a variety of plenty of fresh veggies in your diet.
