There are many advantages to creating and managing an article directory, if you can get yourself to do it. There are all kinds of article directories, so you can choose the type that’s right for you. Don’t think that huge directories like Ezinearticles make it impossible to start one of your own. There’s no need to pit yourself against the large directories. What’ you’re really aiming for is something like an authority website (whether you presently have one now or not), only on an even larger scale. Article directories can exponentially increase your sphere of influence in your niche, or in many niches. Ranking for keywords in the search engines wouldn’t be so hard with an article directory! You can look forward to such impressive gains, but you have to start somewhere. If having an article directory sounds exciting, the following tactics can help you begin.

One important decision you will have to make is what the domain name will be, and it needs to be memorable and relevant. But do not think it is impossible to find a good .com domain name. But it is not as terribly difficult if you take your time with it. It is not as bad as you think if you look for domains with “articles” in them. If you are building a niche article directory, then you should choose a niche keyword that has a good monthly search volume. But do be sure that the keywords you choose will not be impossible to achieve rankings for in the serps.

You will no doubt have several streams of income happening on your article directory. You need to strike a fine balance between non-commercial and commercial aspects of your directory.

But no matter what you are doing, be very sure to include some tastefully positioned “call to action” copy that is clearly visible. You can place ads, but just do not be overbearing about how you do it.
