The Christmas spirit has never been so wicked. Whether you wish to be amused, touched or terrified this anthology has all the necessary ingredients. Humor and sentimentality are often showcased in this Christmas collection of goodies. The stories are unique but fans will be pleased to see some favorite characters. Here’s a look at some of the stories in the book.

Gift Wrap, by Charlaine Harris, finds Sookie Stackhouse alone at Christmas, that is, until she discovers an ailing werewolf outside her home. Not one to abandon a creature in trouble, Sookie swings into action. For those who don’t follow the series, this story takes place just after the latest novel.

In Lucy, at Christmastime, Simon Green writes a short story that complements his popular Nightside series; a werewolf having drinks at a Nightside bar during the holiday season reminisces about his past, including his past love.

Supernatural creatures are usually good-hearted in The Night Things Changed by Dana Cameron. However, in a twist of fate, one turns out to be a killer. A female vampire and her werewolf brother investigate the matter.

In The Werewolf Before Christmas, by Kat Richardson, perhaps the most enjoyably wicked of the collection, this tale, from the author of the Greywalker series, features Matthias the werewolf. After helping himself to a tasty meal of Rudolph the Reindeer at the North Pole, Santa Claus ropes him into taking Rudolphs place.

In Il est Ne by Carrie Vaughn, Kitty makes a new friend at, of all places, a Waffle House. She acquaints herself with a new werewolf and they solve a nasty crime mystery. Overall, this is a nice feel-good story.

In “You’d Better Not Pyout”, Nancy Pickard writes an an hilarious story about two misplaced ex-Soviet vampires in Florida. They just found out that Santa Claus is a vampire and that Christmas is a scam that simply grants him access to homes and an endless blood supply. They seek to join him, but somehow end up across the Atlantic Ocean. Yes, this story includes many lively twists and turns.

In “Rogue Elements”, Karen Chance writes a police mystery set in the supernatural realm of Las Vegas which involves identity denial and werewolf politics.

Wolfsbane and Mistletoe showcases short stories from the finest authors in the fantasy/horror genre. Although the tales are tall and sometimes full of gore, they definitely offer something different for fantasy fans.
