What Were The Stimulus Grants Of 2009 Supposed To Do?

By Jed Jenkins

It has been a rough 3 years for the economy in America but there are some signs that things may be getting better. People are slowly starting to spend again and home prices seem to have stabilized meaning that better things might be ahead.

Unemployment, while still very high, is starting to gradually come down from it’s peak of over 10%. There are some that say the stimulus bill and grants of 2009 were an essential element of the improved state of the economy.

More money going into the school is something that came out of the stimulus bill. Kids need more from their schools and their teachers and these kinds of programs benefit us all in the long run. Our schools have been neglected for years and money for schools is always a hot debate.

The stimulus grants were also supposed to help lower income students pay for the increasing cost of college. This means that children will be able to attend higher education instead of dropping out after high school. There is a very high drop out rates all across the country and this leads to extreme gaps of income within the United States.

Other things these grants were intended to address was the issue of putting Americans back to work. The bridges and roads of many cities and states have been neglected over the past decade and the objective here was to invest these funds into fixing these. This would result in higher employment due to the increased need for labor jobs created by these grants.

Hopefully, most of the stimulus bill is going towards improvements that are much needed in this country. Money has to be spent sooner or later on these things and now is as good a time as any.
