Have A Big Fight? 4 Tips To Get Over It

By Sarah Scott

Once again, did you and your boyfriend have a quarrel? Was it over something trivial? Or was it heavy, like catching him with another woman?

Fight with Boyfriend Tip #1

First, figure out why you really had a fight. If the reason is easy to approach, such as being late once again, find out the reason. If it’s something heavy such as cheating on you or stealing money, you probably need to end the relationship. It’s nothing new or anything to get too worried about, most couples have arguments. It’s understandable that two different personalities will disagree on some things and “get into it” once in a while.

Physical or mental abuse, hitting you or making you do something you don’t want to do, are good reasons to end a relationship. Something may be going on with him that you can’t fix. Should your boyfriend be hurting you, you need to get out of the relationship and he needs to get professional help.

Any argument is unpleasant, but don’t let it spin out of control, that could quickly end the relationship. So, you had an argument with your boyfriend. What’s next?

Fight with Boyfriend Tip #2

Calmer heads will prevail. After an argument, you’ll both need to cool down. Split for a while. Take a walk. Take a nice, long hot bath. Don’t let the situation escalate. Trying to talk things out when you’re both upset won’t help anything.

Fight with Boyfriend Tip #3

Examine the reasons for the fight. Were you at fault? Has the reason been a bone of contention for a while? Try to look at the situation from your boyfriend’s point of view. Be calm before you start turning the reason for the argument over in your mind. Did you make a mistake? Did you perhaps leap too quickly?

Fight with Boyfriend Tip #4

Your fourth move should be to talk to him later in a calm and sober manner. Ask him to explain his reasoning to you. Then talk calmly about how you feel. Then start mulling over a solution to the quandary. Being late is a pain, so suggest he wear a watch to keep track of the time. He might think it helpful for you to ring him up an hour or so before the date. Don’t forget that you’re both human, you’re not perfect, you can make mistakes. Any problem can be resolved, just do some soul-searching.

Once the solution as been presented, it’s time to forgive and forget and go have some fun. A row now and then in a relationship is not unusual, just remember that it shouldn’t be the biggest thing in your relationship.

Fighting and finding a mutually acceptable resolution can put some character into a relationship. Don’t let a fight ruin your relationship. Learn from it and learn how to forgive each other.
