You can easily buy a stun gun online today, which is an electrical self defense weapon that emits a high-voltage and low amperage shock to the person being stunned. These are tiny hand held weapons that must make contact directly with the assailant for it to function properly. The device uses two small probes that once in contact with skin, release a charge that is very painful.
These self defense weapons are legal to carry in most states, but that is not to say they are not dangerous anyway. To put things in perspective, one amp will kill a person. Any stunt gun you buy is a weapon that immobilizes the attacker by the passage of high voltage. However, the amperage is minimal such that no permanent damage is caused.
The way a stun gun immobilizes an attacker is by disrupting the messages the brain send to the muscles. Only touching someone with this for 3-5 seconds will deliver enough high voltage to shock them and cause them to have confusion, loss of balance and loss of muscle control. With all of this going on, they usually fall to their knees.
These are some of the best selling self defense products in the market because they are small in size so they fit easily in a pocket or purse. You can even carry it in your hand and no one would notice. People can easily buy stun guns online as well, but make sure they are legal in your state first.
A stun gun is designed to be used where you can touch the attacker with it anywhere in the torso area. Pepper spray on the other hand, can be used at a greater distance (usually 5-10 ft. away) If you want really good personal protection, carrying both a pepper spray and a stun gun is best, since pepper spray is best if being attacked from 5-10 feet away, whereas stun guns must touch the body.
The neat thing about the self defense industry is just how covert they have gone with these devices. You can buy stun guns that look like rings or cell phones, as well as pepper sprays that look like lipsticks, pens, pages, and rings. With all these options available that are also reasonably priced, there is no reason why you cant effectively protect yourself unless these items are illegal in your state.
