Being easy to tame, low maintenance and fun, parakeets make great pets. Now that you have chosen your parakeet, you need to find a cage and supplies that will be a comfortable home for it. Where do you start, with so many cages and accessories to choose from?

The first thing you will need is a cage. A cage is really important because you don’t want to bring your parakeet home and have nothing for it to live in. Make sure that you choose a cage and set it up before you buy your parakeet. There are so many different cages to choose from and it is important to get a cage that’s in you budget and that your parakeet will be happy in.

Parakeet cages come in all sizes, shapes and materials. The number of parakeets you will be getting are a determining factor in the size of cage needed. When purchasing more than one parakeet, a larger cage is recommended so that your birds will have plenty of room to fly and play. There is no need for a huge cage if there will only be one parakeet living in it. Another thing to consider is how often you will be letting your bird out of the cage. It is fine to have a small cage for your bird if you will be letting it out often. If your bird will be inside the cage most of the time, a larger cage would be a roomier and more comfortable choice for your bird. Cages are made from many materials, but metal cages are a good choice for someone that favors easy cleanup and is on a budget. Metal cages are not only a great price, but they usually have removable plastic bottoms that make for easy cleaning. Cages made from other materials work just as well for parakeets. Cages made of wood provide a comfortable home for your bird and also have a very decorative look. Another great option for a less expensive and easily cleanable cage is a plastic cage.

The colors, shapes, sizes and styles of cages are easy to get caught up in. The most important thing to consider is whether the cage will provide a good home for your parakeet.

Make sure your cage has strong doors that lock because parakeets are pretty smart and some are cunning enough to open a cage door so just make sure the doors are fully closed and have no flaws in them when you purchase a cage. You will not need an actual lock on the door for your parakeet but be sure that the doors close all the way because parakeets can also squeeze through small openings.

A great way to save a lot of money and still get a quality cage is to buy one online. There are thousands of sizes, colors, and shapes to choose from and most are at the fraction of the cost if you were to but one at a pet store. You can also have custom made cages. Why pay for a cage at a pet store when you could get the same one online for half the price, right?

The search for the perfect parakeet cage can be a bit overwhelming. This article can be a great help in narrowing your search for the right cage.
