An Overview Of Blue French Bulldogs

By Pierre Fontaine

The Blue French Bulldog is muscular and short in stature, built heavily but compactly with a smooth velvety coat that gives a superb tactile sensation. It has a characteristic flat face and the usual bat ears. The animal looks like one that has a lot of enthusiasm for life and sports an intellectual expression on its face. The Blue French bulldog with an air of curiosity and an engrossed but vigilant look etched on its face is a beautiful dog that will simply run into your heart.

The one physical feature that makes the Blue French Bulldog stand miles apart from the other French Bulldog puppies is the telltale color of the its coat which is almost “Blue” but yet again, still somewhat remotely. This very uncommon color is because of the presence of the dilation gene, d, that is responsible for the changing of the pigment from black to blue. The color in fact has a slight grey hue. But similar to any other rare thing, be it the “Kohinoor Diamond” or Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”, the Blue French Bulldog are in high demand.

The three available breeds of the Blue French Bulldog are the Blue Brindle, the Blue Fawn and the Blue Pied. In the Blue Brindle, there is a grayish blue hue on the back ground of a blue-grey fur coat. In the Blue Pied, the proportion of the ‘d’ gene is reduced.

These two types of Blue French Bulldogs frequently have blue or yellowish gold colored eyes. The Blue Fawn, variation is more conspicuous by the masking points on its face and have distinctive green grey eyes. The parentage of these dogs most commonly is either fawn or red fawn parents.

The color of the Blue French Bulldog is nevertheless uncommon and a small number of dogs are endowed with this quirk of nature. Only a small amount of other breeds like the Great Dane, the Shar-peis, tthe Labrador and the French Mastiff dog have blue variants. Regardless this distinguishing color does not in any way make the Blue French Bulldog less fascinating and endearing.

Because of its obstinate nature, the Blue French Bulldog requires constant training. The male dogs are aggressive to some extent and hence they must be taught to follow instructions. Training methods should not be cruel, because such techniques will offend certain characteristics. Moreover, they do not respond when treated cruelly. Hence they should be trained patiently.

The Blue French Bulldog does not shed often and hence grooming is a relatively hassle free, but necessary task. As they dribble a lot, it is essential to wash their mouths frequently.

Exercise is one activity that the Blue French Bulldog does not need to a large extent. If exerted, respiratory problems are likely to occur. The puppy is mainly an indoor one and any activity in hot weather is to be avoided.

Each Blue French Bulldog is a truly wonderful dog, the company of which is to be experienced.
