Aren’t puppies just the most adorable animals in the world? The way they look at us with those cute eyes, their little tail wagging whenever they see us? They are so cute, it is sometimes hard to resist to just take a pup home. But, hold on, before you do so, please be aware of the big responsibility, too.

Ask yourself a few questions before getting a puppy. For example, are you willing to house train your puppy? This will be essential since living indoors is much better for dogs than living outside.

Of course, having your dog means you do not have to worry about the elements as much. Moreover, they will not be exposed to risk such as other animals, fleas, and ticks.

As you can imagine, though, house breaking a puppy is a lot of work, and, yes, it takes both time and patience.

Essentially, what you will have to do is take your puppy outside very frequently – even in the middle of the night. Without your help, he will not be housebroken. So if you find this too much work, forget about getting a puppy.

Moving on: Can you even afford a pup? This is a big question, and it should not be underestimated. There will be trips to the vet. Even if your pup is of the healthy sort, there will still be some occasion, where you will not get around going to the vet. Make sure you are aware of the financial implication.

Additionally, further down the line, you may want to think about spaying or neutering or dog. If you do this, again, it can be costly. So, what I am trying to say is, make sure that you can actually afford good medical care for your dog, and if you can’t, maybe you should wait.

And finally, another big question: How much time are you willing to invest? It’s not enough to simply buy a puppy, feed him and toss him a few treats now and then. Your pet depends on you for many things, including companionship.

In conclusion, getting a puppy is a tremendous responsibility. He will love and adore you and try and please you. In return, you should make sure that you can provide a good life for him – one that is filled with care, friendship, love, and laughter.
