House Call Vet Blessings For All

By Cathy Mercer

One thing many domestic pet owners have wished for is a veterinarian that would make house calls. The services provided by a house call vet are invaluable, especially when they are equipped with mobile offices and equipment. Animals need medical attention just like humans and often times it is not always the easiest of tasks having to transport animals to the doctors office.

The doctors of veterinary medicine have seen that it is easier on the animals and sometimes even the owners when they make house calls. The animals are more comfortable in their familiar surroundings and most everything that can be done in the office can be performed in a mobile unit. These mobile units are equipped with essentially the same things the office has, except it has wheels and is mobile.

Animals like humans can become nervous and scared. There is also the possibility of them becoming sick from the movement of being transported. A sick, scared animal does not always make for the best patients. Humans may become resistant when scared or nervous, where animals may become aggressive and try and harm the people taking care of them. This can become a dangerous environment for the people and animals involved.

Just like humans, animals are more comfortable in their own familiar environment. This can make examinations, vaccinations and general checkups a lot easier on both the vets and the animals. It is also more convenient for a vet to make a house call when an animal is dying or in need of being euthanized. Many owners want their beloved pets to be comfortable and in their homes as they peacefully pass.

Mobile units may be a little more expensive compared to the regular office visits; however, most people do not mind the little added expense in lieu of the convenience. They also find it is less stressful on the animals and themselves. Not a hard decision to make between struggling with an animal to get them to an office or having the office come to you and pay just a little more.

There are still some house call vets that do not have mobile units; they just carry the basics and do what they can without the modern conveniences of x-ray equipment or onsite laboratory analysis. These are the vets that come to homes as a courtesy and if anything of significance needs to be done, it is performed in their office.

A lot of the time these mobile units offer emergency services, weekend hours and even accommodate visits after normal working hours for those that are in need. The best part is they come directly to you and your pet. No more battling to get your pet to get them to the doctor, the doctor comes to your pet.

Taking your animals to the office may become a thing of the past. These mobile vet units usually accommodate after hours emergency responses, have weekend hours and are available after business hours for those that cannot take time off from work to take care of getting their animals to the vet. A house call vet is a dream come true for animals and owners.
