Even though many pets are housed inside, many others are permitted to wander the yard or neighborhood where they can get disoriented and have trouble finding their way home. Unfortunately, many pet owners have stories about a cherished pet that has gone absent and never returned. Luckily there are many amazing stories of survival and reunion. Let’s think about a couple of the more amazing lost and found stories involving cats.

Cuddles Comes Home After Two Months

Many cats possess the astonishing capability to locate their people with a seemingly inconceivable ability, which is what exactly happened to Cuddles, a grey tabby from Anne Arundle county Maryland. A resident of the local SPCA shelter, Cuddles was in the middle of being moved with a few other shelter pets for an adoption event. Startled by the barking of nearby dogs, the cat swiftly bolted out of her handlers arms and into the the neighborhood. Not able to track her, the shelter staff member who’d befriended her was instructed not to worry and that she’d turn up. After 2 months went by, the lovely little cat had not returned and Sarah her human was sick about it, until she there was a knock on the door. Remarkably, neighbors had seen a grey tabby lounging on the sidewalk in front on Sarah’s home and had notified her to the probable stray. In the dim light, Sarah was surprised to find that Cuddles had followed her to her home over two months later and one mile from the shelter.

Cadie Comes Home After 1 Month And a Tornado

The strength of some pets can be astonishing and if Cadie the cat could talk she would have a harrowing story to share. A longhaired mix belonging to Judy Pugh of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the cat became separated from her owner during the shocking tornado that destroyed the home and left Ms. Pugh with only the clothes on her back. Searching through the aftermath of the storm, Ms. Judy could recover Cadie’s sisters and brothers but the little cat was nowhere to be found. After combing the debris and numerous return trips to her ruined house it was thought that Cadie hadn’t survived. That was until Ms. Pugh was questioned by a local tv station, when a bedraggled Cadie made her entrance for the TV cameras. The cat had survived the tornado not to mention exposure over one month to finally make it home to her mother.

County Cat Undertakes 5 Year Journey

Occasionally an incredible story about a pet that has journeyed great distances surfaces, and the journey of Willow is among those stories. An adorable calico cat from Colorado, Willow disappeared during some renovation work on the family house. Skip forward 5 years and 1800 miles and Willow was seen in the heart of New York City by a caring citizen and taken to a local rescue group. There, it was discovered by microchip that she belonged to the Squires family that lives over 1800 miles away. In the time since Willow went missing, the families young children had grown and another had been born! Even though this may not have been the longest journey by a cat, it’s certain that anyone learning of this narrative will recognize that Willow is one well-traveled house cat.

Dead Cat Returns From the Grave 9 Years Later

Quite a few cat owners feel that they have an exceptional connection to their pets and Gilly Delaney of Birmingham, England is surely one whose connection to her cat Dixie is strong. In 1999 Ms. Delaney was given the heartbreaking news that her treasured Dixie had been killed by an oncoming car. After racing to the supposed spot, Gilly could not locate Dixie which sowed the seeds of doubt that perhaps her pet was still living. Once the cat didn’t come home within several weeks, the family’s intentions to move away were placed on hold. 9 years later, Dixie was found on the street by an animal welfare organization and because of an implanted microchip she was reunited with her delighted family.
