Some disagree over the use of an anti bark collar. This is because there are major issues surrounding bark collars. Before you consider using a collar on your dog, you may want to know what these issues are. This is to help you decide for yourself if you do not have any objections to collar use.

Detractors say collars are inhumane. This is the single most enduring issue related to bark collars. These devices stop excessive dog barking through three main methods. Depending on the collar that you have, it may emit ultrasonic sound, spray citronella or produce electric shocks. All three of these are disagreeable to dogs in general.

Electric collars are considered the most inhumane. This is obviously because of the possible pain it can inflict on a dog. These collars are especially inadvisable for small dogs. Unfortunately, electric shock collars are also generally more effective than spray or ultrasonic alternatives. Supporters of collar use however argue that the electricity generated by these collars is low level.

Collar malfunction is another concern raised. Anti bark collars stop a dog from barking through the use of preventive actions after a succession of barks. However, barking is a dog’s basic means of communication and typical manner. They bark to show how they are feeling. Other than that, collars cannot let you know a dog’s train of thought. Nor can it distinguish between a dog’s usual and unpleasant behavior. Even so, the use of collars may contribute to psychological danger to a dog especially if they are restless.

Anti bark collars are not entirely infallible. There are dogs that can possibly grow immune to the sound and odor. This means that they can easily adapt to the collars leading to their previous behavior to resurface. Shock collars have a different effect as dogs have a lesser chance of being immune to it. But if they do become immune, then the necessity of escalating the shock becomes apparent. This results to greater pain for the dog.

Some regard collars only as a short cut answer. Dogs can be trained to control their excessive barking. Owners who think of such training to be costly usually resort to the use of bark collars. The use of a bark collar only controls the barking temporarily.

Supporters do have an answer for these attestations. They claim that collars are not that harmful for dogs and are preferably the best technique. Compared to the surgical removal of a dog’s vocal cords, the use of collars is a far more ideal choice.

Using an anti bark collar is your choice. If however, you are not yet comfortable with using collars, you can attempt to modify your dog’s behavior by first using other methods such as training. You may consider bark collars only when your preferred methods do not work. Look for a collar with detailed product descriptions. You should get a collar brand that guarantees the least pain possible for your dog.
