Building Chicken Coops In The Right Location

By Sean A. Young

Choosing the the right location for building chicken coops is the first thing you need to look at while you’re checking out the different chicken coop building plans.

Here are a few tips to help you get started.

Look at how much space you have around yard, and if you’re not limited on space then going with a large chicken house is fine. But if you’re restricted in space, then you’ll need to go with a small design.

Next you have to think about the safety of your birds. Predatory animals pose a deadly threat to the chickens, and therefore finding a suitable location, preferably closer to the house and away from trees is important. This allows you to keep an eye on your chickens, and reduces the risk of an attack.

Also be aware of any heavy vegetation in the area where you’ve decided to put up your chicken coop; try to avoid that. Some plants may be poisonous and are harmful to your birds.

Chickens like to dig around for worms, so having a floor inside is not necessary.

Having enough sunlight is very essential for growth and healthy life of your hens. And if you feel your coop will get little to no sunlight at all, make sure you install electricity, but keep in mind that natural sunlight is better for your flock. Especially for laying hens.
