By Patrice McCoy

Bakken is the second largest among the oil producing fields in the US. Companies extract thousands of oil barrels from the rock formation per day. That is the reason why a huge number of people like those who got fired from their jobs are moving to this place. The escalating number of workers coming to the town pose a special dilemma particularly on the Bakken oil field housing Williston problem.

The growing community of Williston is found in the western North Dakota close to Montana. The town is reputed to sit on a huge deposit of oil that is why workers looking for high paying jobs flock to this place. Geologists reported that the deposits on Williston can produce more than a billion of oil barrels.

The community has 12,000 population before but the population flourished drastically within the last few years. Traffic and housing shortage were two of the most prominent dilemma that haunt the once sleepy town. Restaurants usually close earlier than usual because they lack labor to do the job even if workers are offered $15 per hour. To get more job applicants, employers have to offer signing bonus.

The oil fields are said to contain deposits referred to as Bakken which presence is known by oil companies for decades but they just did not have the technology to harness the oil back then. The Bakken rock unit is on the subsurface of Williston Basin spreading 200,000 square miles. It was only in 2008 when the rock fracturing technology was developed that the deposits were finally extracted and produced into oil.

The oil fields are said to contain oil sufficient to provide America needs within thirty to forty years. As of now, an estimated thirty five thousand people are employed in the Williston. And everyday the demand is growing. Demand for workers will not likely wane for the next several years.

The job opportunities in the place provide workers an average income of $90,225. The employees are also allowed to do overtime for as long as they want to. If a worker loses his job, he can easily find a replacement within days. Blue color jobs offer $16 each hour. This salary grows higher because they are also provided bonuses and overtime on top of regular pay. Most workers actually make six figure earnings by year end.

It is little wonder then that the need for more accommodations in Williston is a big challenge. The workers need a warm and decent place to stay. To be able to provide for the basic shelter needs of the employees, many housing units have been established within the last years.

Most of these temporary homes are dorm-style living quarters in prefab buildings. They provide a decent room and a private shower. The room also comes with three meals a day. These accommodation arrangements help keep the workers rejuvenated after a grueling 80-hour work week.

The growing cost of accommodation in the place leads people to look for a better comfortable option. The dorm style living areas provide a safe haven for people from distant places much like home. This type of accommodation attracts a number of people because food is provided three times a day as well as the basic necessities such as hot and cold shower and a comfy bed. This is why the workers would rather have this kind of Bakken oil field housing Williston option.
