Mold Inspection: Why San Diego Has Perfect Conditions For A Dangerous Problem.

By Guest

It may surprise you but sunny San Diego provides the perfect conditions for growing mold in your home. It is a problem that has been getting a lot of media attention lately and is best detected by a mold inspection San Diego style.

The mold problems at two local schools were detailed on Channel 4s San Diego Insider. The story explained that the mold problems at the 2 schools were so bad that they were shut down and destroyed.

So what makes San Diego so surprisingly perfect for mold growth? We talked to Tim Allison of Allison Property Inspections to find out. According to Tim mold is all around us but needs certain conditions to grow to dangerous levels.

1. The temperature needs to be between 55 and 95 degrees, like in most homes. Freezing temperatures do not kill mold as it only goes dormant till things warm up.

2. The relative humidity needs to be above 50%.

3. Mold needs plenty of moisture on a consistent basis to thrive. In San Diego homes this usually comes from the home itself in the form of poorly sealed showers and tubs, leaking pipes, and sprinklers hitting a leaky foundation.

4. And a food source. The wood, drywall and plywood in the house are what mold lives on. The mold actually eats the materials.

These conditions should sound familiar to most San Diego home owners.

Of course the potential for a run away mold problem is not as great as the wet and rainy areas of country but, you need to make sure you are on top of the wet areas of your house by fixing leaks and drips right away. Don’t feed the monster.

Visible growth on your walls may be the sign of much more in hiding. You can rule out the dangerous types of mold by having a professional mold inspection done.

Have your mold inspection San Diego done by someone that holds a certification from NAC2. They are the national certifying body for this type of inspection. Also make sure you do not have the inspection done by a company that also provides clean up services as they have a large incentive to do remediation “just in case”.
