Using Public Transport – France, Italy
By Paolo Matzi
Systems of public transport France Italy can be of great use to tourists visiting these two countries. From the ruins of the Caesars in Italy to the beaches of Normandy, mass transit has been designed to get travelers where they wish to go. A Rail Pass offers the maximum flexibility, as it is good on any journey during a specific length of time. But if the itinerary is set up in advance, there are many places to purchase tickets beforehand.
If you are traveling between Italy and France, consider either a short flight from one of the many convenient airports or, if you have time, a journey on a sleeper car. These are trains that travel through the night and might get you to your destination rested and ready for a new day. It may be wise to get a reservation in advance over the Internet for either trip.
The Metro is the subway system in Paris, France. Tickets for individual trips can be bought at the station or you can choose to purchase a pass good for all day. This may be a fast and easy way to get around Paris. Riding the subway without a ticket risks a sixty Euro fine, so it best to purchase in advance of boarding.
Rome, Italy boasts a subway called the Metropolitana. These trains run in a circle around the city, but do not go through it. To get to an address within Rome itself, many people choose to take a bus. To buy tickets for the bus, there are vending machines at the large stops, which require exact change, or tickets are sold at newspaper stands or bars around town. Electric buses also go into narrow alleyways and passages, too small for standard vehicles to fit.
It can be a fun part of a trip to take a ferry up or down the southern Italian coast or to offshore locations like Sicily or Capri. Schedules are found on company websites, but be sure to read carefully. Times may vary with the seasonal changes in routes.
A Rail Pass for public transport France Italy is good for most mass transit journeys within the time specified on the card. This gives you the ability to change plans frequently without having to worry about buying tickets in advance. If you are a spontaneous traveler who dreams of hopping on the next train to explore an unknown destination, a Rail Pass may be a good choice for your travels around Italy and France.
