A Couple Important Facts To Consider Regarding A Skateboard Deck

By Jay Walls

A skateboard deck is one of the most integral part of a skateboard. Without this one piece there would in fact be no skateboard at all. There are many things that should be taken into account when looking at skateboard decks.

The best place to begin would be identifying certain parts of a deck. The front section of the deck is called the nose and this is before the mounting holes. Behind the mounting hole at the back of the board is known as the tail. The tail is slimmer and shorter compared to the nose and this is how you can tell them apart.

Length and width must be taken into account when dealing with a skateboard deck. There are a variety of things that are determined by these so it is best to find a length that is good for you. From the start of the nose to the very end of the tail is where you measure the length of the deck. The average deck will measure 28 to 32″ in length. A decks width can influence the types if tricks you will be able to do perform. 7.5 to 8.25 will be the average for this.

Mounting holes are another important part of the deck. If you don’t have them you cannot have any wheels. These holes will be drilled beforehand and placed in the front and the back. The distance between two inner mounted holes to another is named the wheelbase. The size of the owner will determine the size but approximately 14 inches is the average.

Decks will consist of a number of ply layers. When viewing a deck from the side it is possible to observe the layers. Most decks are made of wood with the most common being Canadian Maple. Having the layers in a multi-grain pattern is a means of making a board stronger. 7 ply layers is the most common amount for most decks.

Something else that will affect the way that the rider uses the board is the concave of the deck. The concave is the portion of the deck where it curves slightly to the side. The importance behind the concave is that it will give the rider much more control over the board.

A skateboard deck is made up of a number of different things. All these factors must be understood before buying one so that you will know that you have got the best deck for you and what you want to do.

Now you can select the skateboard deck that will give you the style you want fast and easy! When you see the wide selection of skateboard decks available, you will be able to outfit your new board today!
