Do You Have Warning Track Power? Increase Your Bat Speed And Become A True Power Hitter

Do you ever wonder how small guys hit home runs? Increase your bat speed and you can do the same thing. You do not have to big to hit the long balls. If you are struggling to hit the ball harder and longer, you will need to build a strong foundation, a strong midsection, and learn the key element of muscle memory.

Leg Strength – Power hitting foundation

Start increasing your bat speed by strengthening your legs. Your legs are your foundation to hitting the ball harder and longer. You’ll want to concentrate on doing big exercises like leg squats. Legs squats will build the bigger muscles and ultimately help with increase bat speed. Throw in some leg curs, leg extensions, and calve raises to complete the muscle group.

Strong abs lead to increase bat speed

Your ultimate goal is to get your hands and bat through the hitting zone fast. To do this effectively will require a strong core and midsection. You want to strengthen your whole abdominal muscle group including your obliques, lower abs, and center abs. Try to do such exercises as crunches, leg lifts, and planks. Increasing core strength will ultimately increase bat speed.

Muscle Memory – Secret key ingredient

What is muscle memory? Muscle memory is developed by training the muscles to do the same thing over and over again. This is a very crucial component when trying to increase bat speed. Here’s why- Say you take a bat the weigh’s 40 oz (extremely heavy). You proceed to do hitting drills off the tee into a net at a rate of 15-20 swings per set. How fast do you think you can swing that bat. Probably not very fast at all. You are actually training your muscles to swing slow – this is “bad” muscle memory. Now take a very light bat, such as a fungo bat, and do the same drill. How fast can you swing a fungo bat. Pretty quick I bet. Now your training your muscles to swing fast. This is “good” muscle memory. Doing these drills with a lighter bat will ultimately develop better muscle memory allow you to increase bat speed.

Okay, for those who are trying to increase bat speed to hit for power, you’ll need to build leg strength, core strength, and use the proper weighted bat for all your hitting drills. Implementing this tips will almost guarantee your long ball success.
