My Favorite Moments As A Vandy Hoops Fan

By Andrew Stevenson

When it comes to college basketball, my favorite team is, without question, the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Forgetting about the bad memories, here are some of the best moments of the past few years for the team.

Two years ago, Tennessee was ranked as the number one team in the country. They had just beaten Memphis (also located in Tennessee and also were ranked #1 in the country at the time) and had just a day off before having to face Vandy. Vanderbilt crushed the Vols to move up to the #13 team in the nation.

In 2007, for a long period of time, the Florida Gators were the kings of college basketball. They were coming off a national championship and were undefeated up until this game. Vanderbilt outplayed them and managed to win in a great game.

Even though I hated them at the time, the Gators were an incredible team. Al Horford, Joakim Noah, Corey Brewer and Taurean Green were all on this team.

Vanderbilt was a hot ticket coming into the NCAAB Tournament in 2007. They were led behind senior Derek Byars and Shan Foster. Both players played exceptionally well and were able to beat out a great Washington State Cougars team. This was one game where neither team deserved to lose.

In 2007, Vandy was undefeated at home. In the last game of the season, they faced a very talented Mississippi State team that was determined to win. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, this was Shan Foster’s night. He managed to hit 9 three pointers, including 7 in a row the most amazing performance by a college player I’ve ever seen.

Another great game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs took place in 2003. It was the SEC Tournament in Atlanta and yours truly was sitting in the press box. The game went to double overtime, yet Vanderbilt prevailed to make it to the SEC Finals.

In addition to college basketball, the writer additionally regularly blogs on exterior house painting and exterior stucco paint.
