Boost Your Horse Riding Success Via Mind Reprogramming

By Heather Toms

There is a secret to turning into a superior rider without having to go thru hours and hours of lessons: you can make yourself an infinitely better rider by devoting some part of the time spent on lessons to train yourself mentally. I used this secret to fulfill my ambition of riding in Global Events.

I did it this way. I came across a copy of the book Psychocybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. It’s a book that pretty much changed my life. I learned from Maltz’s book about the way in which the human subconscious can help in achievement. Maltz made it clear that not withstanding popular belief, the conscious part of the mind does not permanently influence the quality or effectiveness of human actions. There isn’t any question that exercise of strong determination and faithful determination can achieve short term success but for wining to become a habit, it’s the unconscious mind that really must be allowed to dominate.

This is largely due to the way the subconscious mind works toward goal realisation. The subconscious is not judgmental; it’s not concerned with negative or positive aspects. It is concerned with achieving goals, and it waits for you to point it at the next one. When you do that, your subconscious mind starts its relentless work: edging you closer and closer to realisation.

You need to handle your subconscious with total care, because it picks up on cues you did not intend it to. For instance, if you keep speaking to pals and relatives about how much of a frightened wreck you become at events, your subconscious takes that for a goal. The final result, you mess up each and every time.

You need to exploit the fact that the subconscious cannot tell the difference between fact and fiction. Regardless of if it is false, by telling buddies and relations that you love events and the challenge they pose, your subconscious locks in on that and makes it a goal. You’ll soon begin to love events. It is inevitable because you have programmed a particularly powerful subconscious that won’t be denied.

What are the best methods to deliberately use your unconscious mind to raise yourself up, there are 2 methods: visualization and self-talk.

Visualisation (seeing things as mental pictures) works best when it is clear. You can make it vivid by making a purposeful attempt to fill in as many details as possible and by getting all of your senses, including emotion, involved.

- Open your ears to the rhythm made by the footfalls of your pony.

- Open your nose to the aroma of fresh air after it rains in summer.

- Reinforce your touch perception so that you can better feel the way the reins in your hands weigh.

- Open your eyes to your horse’s markings, as well as to your own attire.

- Open your mouth a little and get a taste of the salt in the sweat that drips down from your brows.

- Open your heart and invoke your emotions. Feel your own quietness and poise while entering the ring.

One effective way to program the subconscious is to take care about the words emanating from your mouth.

Positively claim your ambitions,

Assert your ambitions so it appears you’re already in possession of the qualities you intend to attain.

Continue to tell yourself ‘I love events’, even if you are not being quite truthful, your subconscious will not be able to distinguish. Simply fake it and you’ll certainly make it, something that I successfully did myself.
