A Backup Plan By Brandon Marshall

By Andrew Simmel

The NFL is coming up to a point in 2011 where they may have to lock out the players. The big question is what will the players do? Well, Brandon Marshall who is currently on the Miami Dolphins roster as a wide-receiver has a plan. He’s made it very clear that he wants to give the NBA a shot if this happens.

Marshall’s ideal situation would be to get a tryout with the Miami Heat or the Denver Nuggets. Since Marshall spent several years in Denver and is now familiar with Miami, these teams make sense for him. He’s made it clear that he’s serious about this as well!

Marshall is extremely confident about this situation and has mentioned he’s more than capable of playing shooting guard in the NBA. He played basketball in high school and enjoys going to NBA games.

Brandon Marshall recently signed a contract with the Dolphins that will pay him $47.5 million. This is only a four year contract, but if the NFL does hold out he won’t see that money. He strongly believes that the NFL is going to lock the players out, so this is his back up plan that he’s working towards.

If there’s a lock out, he wants to be prepared. He will need another job (well, not really need it) and basketball is a real option. He’s talked about his plans to be ready. He’s planning on spending his free time with a basketball coach so he’s ready!

Now that Brandon’s left Denver, he may not have such a warm welcome at first if he did play for the Nuggets. However, he was a very popular guy with the Broncos and their feelings could easily turn back around for him if he returned to Denver. Brandon believes that the Denver crowd would give him a warm welcome home.

The Miami Dolphins staff is obviously concerned about this situation, but it’s also far away. There’s a full season in between and then the lock out must actually happen. Even if the lock out does happen, the Dolphins staff has taken some knocks at Brandon and doubting his ability to play in the NBA.

Time will tell what happens with the NFL and this will help Brandon Marshall determine his future as well. As much as I’d love to see him in the NBA, it would be devastating if the NFL actually did turn to a lock out.
