Yurts: The New Tents of Today’s Camping World
In the past few years, technology has changed the world as we know it. Camping is no exemption to the every changing society we are living in. Nowadays, a lot of campers don’t sleep in tents anymore. They sleep in yurts instead.
Just what is a yurt? Well, a yurt is a bent-wood structure that looks like a wooden hut from the outside. It has a crown, which is a hole at the top of the arrangement, and is surrounded by roof ribs that are bent at their ends to meet up with the lattice’s steam bent walls. Covering the top of the yurt’s walls is a tension band to make sure that the wood doesn’t spread or fall apart because of tension. A yurt is also portable.
Conventionally, yurts were used by the Turkiqnomads in the plains of Central Asia. In today’s world however, a lot of people have shifted to using yurts when camping instead of the traditional tents. This is because majority of campers find yurts more flexible to work with than tents. Yurts can be intensely customized. Their interiors can be designed in as many different ways as your imagination allows you to think of. Some people decorate the insides of their yurts to look like home, while others choose the more natural feel.
Not only are yurts more comfortable than tents, but they are stronger as well. They can withstand rain, intense heat and even strong winds. The crown allows light to enter the yurt, and can be easily covered in times of rain. Because of the round shape of the yurt, it can even resist harsh winds. Instead of blowing against it, the wind simply travels around the yurt, leaving all the campers unharmed.
Each year, more and more yurts are being bought and rented by campers around the globe. This is simply because yurts are more comfortable and safe than tents. A tent, for example, can trap a family into the confines of the tent’s walls in times of rain. A yurt, however, allows the family to stand, walk around a little and still have fun. Trying out a yurt for your next trip is not a bad idea. This might make your camping experience an even better one to remember.
