Bike Choice – What Exactly To Look For

By Johnny Carlton

Many different means of evaluating a bike make purchasing a new one difficult. Take heart! Even professional cyclists struggle when choosing their next bicycle. The fact of the matter is that getting a bike involves many different choices. Planning ahead for things like bike use, safety and comfort, as well as where it will be ridden, and what it looks like, will help you make a better decision. All the existing options make it hard to make a choice; this choice is made more difficult by all the emerging technologies. Simply apply this test as you go to get your new bike.

It’s okay for fashion to affect the decision you make about your new bicycle. Our preferences are reflected in color and style choices. You’d be silly not to pay attention to these factors when getting your new bike. Unless you are just buying a bike for the sheer look of it, style and fashion options shouldn’t be the ultimate priorities. You really need to look at safety and comfort issues before any others. After ensuring both safety and comfort, see which ones you like the actual design of best.

Will you need more bells and whistles for your bike to function optimally? Perhaps a basket to help you carry items will be helpful, should your bike be what you’ll be using most. Will a child ever be transported on your bike? Attaching a child seat is not possible for every bike, so choose wisely. Have you ever considered pulling anything behind your bike? Choose a bike that can support the weight of a trailer, if this is something you’ll do.

Just exactly how many gears do you think you’ll use? Traveling through flat areas requires far less gears than riding in a mountainous area. A bike isn’t better just because it has more gears than another. You may never even get around to using all the available gears. It’s a waste of money to pay for all those unused gears. Ensure you have enough gears to handle the situations in which you will be riding, especially if you bike will be your main mode of transport.

When purchasing a bicycle, you have tons to consider. Your choices range from safety issues to those of fashion. You can feel unsure of yourself, and a bit overwhelmed, as you attempt to purchase a new bike. Do your research and then you’ll feel better prepared to choose your new bike. Before heading out to the store, learn a little bit about the available choices. You’ll reap the benefits.
