Summertime Pests Gotten Rid Of By Bug Zappers

By Garrick Maxwell

Outdoor summer evenings can be easily spoiled by flying pests. It was at one time that the most popular methods of killing these bugs included using spray bug killers or using fly swatters. With the invention of bug zappers, though, people can avoid having to use previous means of getting rid of insects. These helpful appliances allow people to enjoy the outdoors without fear of encountering flying bugs.

These traps look like metal boxes or rectangles. They use electricity to operate and most of them need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. Once the trap is plugged into an outdoor outlet or connected by an extension cord to an indoor outlet, a person can hang it by doors or by windows to help get rid of bugs that might be trying to get in to the building. These buildings can include houses, sheds, and barns.

The lights in the zapper are most often ultraviolet or fluorescent and easily attract bugs to the trap. An insect sees the light and travels to it. Instead of reaching the light, however, the pest runs into the box’s grid. The grid zaps the bug with powerful electricity and the dead insect falls to the floor.

These appliances are now portable. No longer do people have to be near an outlet to be able to use one a zapper. Some models are now portable and run on batteries. These electronic bug zapper rackets are ideal for when a person goes on a fishing or camping trip.

The grids within the trap carry a large amount of voltage. Some traps’ grids can carry as much as two thousand volts of electricity and as much guarantee that most insects will be killed once they reach the grid. The only insects that cannot be killed by these appliances are female mosquitoes. Female mosquitoes are too small to be detected by the grid. As such, they can fly in and out of trap without being killed.

Annoying flying bugs can be controlled by an electronic bug zapper. Having one of these machines near a door, window, or placed strategically on the porch or patio can go a long way in avoiding some of the worst flying pests. These machines are safe to use at any location in a person’s house or yard.
