Why Teens Should Play Sports

Young people nowadays are totally different than the way they were before. The way they entertain themselves and spend their spare time is now different. They no longer care about sports medals and going out there to move.

Teens now prefer to do things that are not heavy physically. They don’t need to go out there and get moving in order for them to pass the time and be entertained. All they have to do is stay indoors in front of their computer or TV.

The youngsters of this generation have been captured by the new age of media and entertainment. There are now a lot of options for them. They can watch TV and surf various digital channels. They can also surf the internet and join social networking sites, chat with their friends or play games online. These are already enough for them to forget the value of earning medals for sports.

Educational, government and other private institutions who are concerned with the youth are now being challenged to promote sports among the new generation. Sports is one activity that teaches young people a lot of lessons. The following are some of the benefits that they can get from playing sports:

1. Develop confidence- teens who do sports have a better self-image and have improved confidence. This is probably due to the realization of their own capabilities and weaknesses.

2. Hone leadership skills-young people engaged in sports are honed to be leaders and responsible individuals. They are given the opportunity to think of strategies and lead the team to success.

3. Maintain health- one of the best forms of exercise is playing sports. Majority of the individuals who do sports get enough exercise to keep their body strong and healthy.

4. Sportsmanship and camaraderie- be it in team or individual sports, teens learn to give importance to their fellows and their opponents. They have that realization that sports is not all about earning sports medals and winning.

The article enumerates some benefits of medals for sports for young people.
