Hockey Skates – Absolutely Necessary For Hockey Playing

By Lewis Monterey

Hockey skates are part of the uniform used to play hockey with – but there are definitely differences in the skates that are on the market – with the biggest being price and quality.

Hockey is an extremely popular sport in the northern regions of the United States of America as well as all of Canada. It has just started catching on in the South Eastern part of the U.S. It is an exciting game that is a bit violent at times.

The players are divided into teams; they have L shaped sticks that they use to push a puck around on the ice. The puck looks a bit like a roll of black electrical tape except it is solid. The entire goal of the game is to push the puck down the ice filled court through to a netted goal. There are team mates stationed in front of each goal to prevent the puck from being slid through and scoring a point. The game is quick paced and the action is none stop.

The players in a hockey game have to use certain tools and equipment for their own safety on the ice and to be sure not to break their bodies up. There are mouth guards, shin guards, and helmets all with the aim of keeping the player safe.

To play hockey skates are the necessary foot gear. Hockey skates tie tightly around the ankle and have much more support than regular ice skates. This is important to keep the players feet planted firmly on the ice without their ankles going out. The blades on hockey skates are very sharp and can easily take a finger off if they run one over. Hockey skates are a bit different from other types of ice skates. The blades on them are thicker and there are stoppers at the front and the rear of the blades for better controls.

The hockey stick is also an integral part of hockey equipment. There are regulation hockey sticks that have to be used by the pro leagues, for the younger folks that enjoy the sport the hockey stick come in varying heights and weights to make play more enjoyable.
