The Joys Of Winter Swimming
Swimming year round is a luxury many swimming pool owners have decided to enjoy and to do that they’ve installed swimming pool heaters. Pool heaters are made in propane, gas and electric styles and the use of a heater combined with a solar cover can keep the water warm enough to enjoy even when the snow is falling. Additionally, using a swimming pool cover will also help prevent your pipes from freezing. Using a pool heater won’t break the family budget either, especially if you equip the heater with a timer. You can set the timer to turn the water up to the desired temperature prior to jumping in so that the heater isn’t running all day.
Swimming pool owners, depending on the area of the country in which you live, may use solar power to keep the water warm in addition to using a gas or electric powered heater. The use of swimming pool covers – while crucial year round – are even more important in the winter, especially if you’re planning to use the pool in the cooler months of the year. The cover will help trap the heat generated from whatever kind of heater you use. Additionally the cover will keep out rain or snow and dirt and falling leaves and other debris.
Work with your swimming pool service tech to help keep the water bacteria free and the chemicals balanced throughout the winter months. Without the sun beating down on the water all day, bacteria and algae grow at a slower rate, but they will still take hold if you don’t keep the chemicals in balance. Keep in mind that the water will still need to be shocked even during the winter months and after the water is shocked, the pump will need to be run for six to eight hours.
Ask your swimming pool maintenance pro whether you will need to fit your swimming pool pump and exposed pipes with heat wraps to keep them protected from the elements and prevent them from freezing and cracking. Having trees and shrubbery or even a pool fence around the swimming pool will help keep it free from dirt and debris and can also help with the costs of running the pool heater throughout the winter months.
Purchase a swimming pool towel heater or heated towel rack and you can offer your swimmers a luxurious treat when they climb out of the warm water and into the cool winter air. Keeping the path to and from the swimming pool clear of snow and ice is also crucial so none of the swimmers fall and get injured while making their way to the water.
