Guidance On The Most Loyal Larger Sized Canines To Join Your Household

By Michael Whiteside

Any time a friend of mine comes to me asking for advice on what type of dog to get, I feel compelled to list medium to larger sized dogs. I don’t know what it is about heavier canines, but they have a special place in my heart. Over the years I have had six dogs, which were at least 60 pounds in weight, and four dogs, which were lighter. My top five favorite dogs were all heavier than sixty pounds.

Here is my list of some of the best larger breeds of dogs to add as a member of your family.

Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to own 3 German Shepherds. My family had our first German Shepherd when I was just 5 years old, and that dog remains one of my favorites pets to this day. The German Shepherd is at the top of my list.

Another dog that I had as a child was a Golden Retriever. These dogs can range in size, but there is a reason they are such a popular option for families all over the world. They are incredibly fun, loving animals and are very intelligent.

While I have never personally owned one, the next dog I want to become part of my family, as soon as I am ready, is the Boxer. These dogs are quite affectionate and playful creatures.

Although it may not be the largest dog in the pack, I will quickly discuss the Golden Doodle. This dog is a “designer dog” and is half golden retriever, half poodle. Seeing as the aforementioned breeds are two of the smartest, it comes as no surprise that the golden doodle is very intelligent and makes for a great pet.

One other great protective large dog is the Akita. This is a Japanese dog that while sheds aggressively, only needs to be groomed once or twice a year. The shedding is seasonal and unless you have allergies should not be a sticking point in considering the Akita.

These are just some of the great breeds of larger sized canines, and if you are looking to get a dog for the family, hopefully now you know you are not just limited to dogs that fit in a purse.

Aside from anmials, the writer also frequently publishes information about reception chairs and the ergonomic office chair.
