Could The Office Be Bad For Your Health

If everyday events were guided by a simple multiple-choice test how would you score? The truth is this life requires much more than memorizing a few answers for the big test; because this life is full of a lot of tests, most of them smaller rather than a big one, it requires allot of practice, patience, and flexibility.

This might sound a wee bit dramatic but it’s not, it’s my life, I work for a big design firm the only laughable thing is that are work spaces are anything but design, and because I love what I do I’m not going to let the environment get me down, in fact I’ve got a couple of ideas and if I can pull together enough co-workers I think we can pull it off.

Think about your options if you are debt free and pay cash for everything, wouldn’t that you leave open doors to work and try new things at your leisure? Here is where it gets tricky for most- they tell me that it’s almost impossible to change careers, not just a job, but a full change in what you are doing and jumping to a completely different career field, that it is impossible with a family. What do you think? I understand the reasoning; it’s usually because a man or woman with a family has acquired more debt. Think about it, a person with a family is typically responsible for mouths to feed, a mortgage, maybe more than one car payment, if the kids are older there is college…you get the idea.

May I just challenge you that you still have options, family or not, because if you choose to get out of debt – pay down those credit cards, stay in your current home, let your car become outdated, you will find that you actually will have more freedom in choosing new opportunities instead of being stuck in the same old rut, hating the thought of going back to the same dam job day after day.

To achieve your perfect work zone , of concentration and creativity in such a small space as my own I decided the best item to buy is these great looking red storage boxes from IKEA- they stack beautifully and I love the color, plus I’m paring them with some larger storage touts with a black and white zebra print on them, here is my first element of color.

By creating some spunky storage I’m adding color while freeing up desk space for my daily to-dos and necessary gadgetry. Due to the fact that we keep our current portfolios next to our work space the larger zebra storage bins will not only organize but help with my research by being so attainable.

May I suggest you start with communicating your feelings on paper; sit down in a quiet area (this could even be the break room at your work) and divide your paper into three sections. The first one will be your concerns for being stuck in your current work field, the second section will be the things you like about your current job, and the third section will be what it will take to make changes so you can enjoy your work. There are many self-help and career builder sites on the internet but they can not help you out one bit if you don’t narrow down what you like and dislike and the changes you would like to see happen. Only when you know where you want to go can you set goals to get you there, the rest will then be easy because you will be on your true path to happiness and authenticity.

Everyone around the world benefits from creative people, just where would we be without color, shapes, yin and yang, people who think outside the box and push ideas forward. I shutter to think, and will be forever grateful for my art teacher in junior high who said it’s ok to have a maroon sunset just so long as you don’t forget what is on the horizon. Today and everyday I look to the horizon and imagine how I can contribute to the world around me, and that guides my inspiration.
