Essential Tips For A CDA Interview

By Cathy Mercer

A CDA interview is often a competency based interview that has been made for use by some dental schools for their admissions purposes. This would completely differ from a panel interview because its main focus would be assessing individuals entirely rather than their personal backgrounds and accomplishments. This will often consist of some interview questions that will assess their skills in communication, analysis, judgment and sensitivity to others.

All the queries that are used by the interviewer in throwing questions are the same with the others. The reason for this is that these questions are prepared and made by the professional dental organizations. Moreover, these are not developed to check how much knowledge a certain applicant has. It is used to further evaluate a person on how he could process all his thoughts and apply it in some situations.

Answers will not be based whether it is right or wrong. Rather, the interviewer would only listen on how you are able to speak out your response. Your answers will be weighed and reviewed to know the overall result. This would be the main reason why mental preparedness is somehow important for most interviews.

Your performance would certainly depend on how well you did your preparations ahead of time. One effective strategy in preparation would be anticipating all the types of questions that will be raised. Practicing on how you would answer each can also help.

The preparation stage would also be tricky as well. A candidate should provide right answers that would effectively sell themselves to their desired positions. Interviewers have the ability of formulating different queries that can tell what kind of person a certain applicant is.

Almost all queries that will be thrown in every session will check the ability of a person to converse decently. They will be placed in certain situations involving other individuals who have personal problems and will then require the applicant to converse with them. This is done to test their sensitivity in handling such situations.

Interviewers will also assess how an applicant could gain control given a hectic circumstance. Their consciousness will also be tested by the questions about doing their responsibilities and task all at once. They will then be asked to defend and reason out their answer.

Ethical dilemmas and issues will be used to test the judging and analyzing skills of a person. They must be able to prove that they could handle different situations. Their integrity will also be checked depending on the way they distinguish a rightful act. Organizing all your answers and basing it from some known facts and experiences might help as well.

Always keep your presence of mind in this situation. You must hide all the tension and remain calm all throughout the session. Arriving early can also help you internalize and think for responses to a certain session that you have long waited. Keep in mind that a CDA interview does not test your knowledge about the field of dentistry. There are no wrong or right answers in here. Just speak out your mind and make sure you will land successful in your task.
