CLEP stands for College Level Examination Program that is the program of series of exams for testing examinees’ college level knowledge acquired through course work, independent study, cultural pursuits, travel, special interests, military service schools, and professional development.Over 2,900 colleges and universities accept CLEP General and Subject exams for credits.

A CLEP test or exam aids the US students in high schools or universities to win credits for the successful completion of their respective courses for each academic term. A CLEP test covers the syllabus taught in courses which can be taken by most students, as specifications within the first two years of college.

The CLEP tests may have various designs or patterns; some correspond to one-semester courses and some correspond to full-year or two-year courses. The pattern or design is normally given inside a CLEP exam’s description. Frequently, a CLEP test is intended to cover material in a one-semester course. A CLEP test is normally 90 minutes lengthy, and except for English Composition with Essay, a CLEP test largely contains multiple-choice questions or fill-ins.

The minimum score for awarding credit is recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE), but the standard of acceptable score and the amount of credit granted for each CLEP test is determined by the institutions concerned. Usually, a college or University grants the same amount of credit to students earning satisfactory scores on the CLEP test as it grants to students successfully completing that course.

The CLEP tests are managed by the College Board, a not-for-profit examination board in the United States. Founded in the 19th century, the College Board also manages standardized tests, such as the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, CLEP, ACCUPLACER, and the subject-specific SAT Subject Tests and Advanced Placement tests.

There are a number of benefits of a CLEP exam, like a CLEP exam saves time of students; helps them getting credit for what they already know; helps them getting rewarded for what they have learned through independent study advanced high school courses, noncredit adult courses, or professional development. The exam saves money of students; it costs $65 that is negligible as compared to the bulks of dollar spent in tuitions; besides, the test is free for military service members. The exam makes college more interesting; the students get right into advanced courses, and finally the CLEP exam facilitates students to wrap up their graduation on time, if they are just lacking a few credits, and also helps students demonstrate their knowledge and proficiency.

The Official CLEP Study Guide released by the CollegeBoard, the designer of the CLEP tests is a comprehensive CLEP study guide for you. The 18th Edition of CollegeBoard’s CLEP Official Study Guide is the only complete source of information about the CLEP exams. It contains sample questions and answers for all 34 exams, information on getting credit for CLEP, and exam-taking tips.
