Studies show people with college educations earn more money. The U.S. Census Bureau reports workers with a bachelors degree earn nearly twice as much as those with only a high school diploma. The average person over 18 with a college degree gets a salary of $51,000 a year. Those with only a high school education earn just under $28,000 a year. According to a survey by the Sloan Consortium, more than 4.6 million students took at least one online in the fall of 2008. That’s a 17 percent increase from the year before. As many as a quarter of all college students are taking at least one course online, simply because of the flexibility. The curriculum for online classes is often the same as for classes offered on campus. However, online classes restart every five to eight weeks. That means students can take more classes each year than in the traditional semester or trimester schedules used by many traditional colleges.

The corporate world is warming up to degrees from online colleges. Online college graduates are equipped with the same knowledge and skills as an employees with a degree from a traditional college. Actually, the method of learning over the internet may put online college graduates ahead of their campus educated colleagues. Online students use the Internet and web programs for everything; they may end up with more technological experience than other workers. Online chat rooms and other forms of communication may help online students may develop national and international contacts during class.

Earning an online degree can lead to job promotions and raises or prepare you for a whole new career. You can attend online college to boost your career without having to rearrange your life. It’s a convenient way to improve your career and may actually put you ahead of the competition.
