If you have opted to school your children at home, you have to understand that it’s quite an endeavor you are undertaking. Not only will you be the teacher, you’ll also have to keep up with everything they do including the time spent in the classroom, their attendance, the work they will be doing, and so many more things that can’t be listed here. If there is more than one child to teach, that makes it even harder, and with all of those things combined, wouldn’t it just be great if there was something to do it all for you? Fortunately there is such a thing as homeschool software, and it will keep track of everything you have done, everything you need to do, and everything you should be doing. It even keeps a schedule for you! But with so many options for homeschool software, which one is right for you?

As technology has improved, so has homeschool software. If you can think of something that you need, there is undoubtedly a piece of software to help. What are some features that you should look for in homeschool software? The first thing that you’ll need to do is keep track of attendance and the hours that you’re in the classroom. This might seem like it’s not necessary considering you will know where your kids are at all times, but it really is important. It’s also a great tool for you to know how much time you’ve spent on something. Most homeschool software programs will allow you to create a schedule as well. This is invaluable for helping you balance your time between teacher and parent. Without some sort of schedule to stick to, you’ll be all over the map.

Something else that you need is a method by which to set goals for the student/child and keep track of the progress they make. You need to have a way to instruct them on methods to reach goals and clearly you can’t reach a goal if you just don’t have one. When you make a goal for them, they need a way to keep track of the progress they’ve made. If you get the right homeschool program, this will all be taken care of.

Make sure that you also watch your own plans very carefully. While you are making lesson plans you’ll be able to save them and pull them up some other time. Additionally, most curriculum for homeschooling that you are using will have the option of being integrated with the software package that you choose. You’ll be able to share your curriculum with other home school teachers as well, and that will help others who are just starting out. Your child may also be presented with the option of doing assignments on the computer, allowing the software to track their progress and let you know how they are doing, as well as what areas they need to work on the most.

Having done these things, you may even track their grades using this software. This method is perfect for monitoring their progress in the different areas, and you’ll even have the option of printing out report cards for them.

Basically you need to ensure that the program you buy has those functions at the very least. Many of the programs on the market have these as basic functions in addition to many more. Above all, make sure that the package you buy meets the needs of both you and your child.
