How To Let Disruptive Students Be Part Of Your Class

Disruptive students are everywhere. Almost every school year or every semester, there is always a student or a group that will stand out because of their annoying attitudes and bad classroom behavior. As a teacher, teaching is not only our sole responsibility. As a matter of fact, it is also our call to discipline these kinds of students to create a harmonious atmosphere inside the room.

This can be a very big responsibility on the side of the teacher. But nonetheless, such a task is necessary so as not to leave these students behind. Much more, you need to prevent their wrongdoings so as not to repeat the action. And as previously stated, to create a nice atmosphere making it worthy to be called a classroom where lessons are imparted than a prison cell full of bad students. If you are a teacher having a hard time disciplining these kinds of students, here are some guides to aid you.

Tip 1: Know these students. The first thing a teacher should do to any disruptive student is to know them personally. This is very important as you can envision to really know why they acted as such. Each disruptive behavior has reasons and motives. You can start to know them by simply memorizing their names. You can even read their previous class reports to get a glimpse of their former attitude in earlier grades or years. You might even find a little information about them.

Tip 2: Recognize them. When there are disruptive students sitting in class, it is the responsibility of a teacher to recognize what they had done wrong. However, it is also good to acknowledge and put more emphasis on what they had done so well. If they happen to be silent say, for example during a lecture class, then give praises to them. They will feel important inside and start doing good things after. What these kinds of students need is not really difficult words and the humiliation especially coming from a teacher, but rather someone who wants to understand and change them.

Tip 3: Discuss with these students. Talking to these students can eventually let you know them in a deeper side of things. So make sure you conduct small talks with them like after class. Assess their performance in your classroom if they understood the topic. You can even offer your help. With this kind of thing, I am sure these disruptive students will open up to you. They would even be happy with your help and you can be assured that they cooperate with you in your classes.

These tips are for those mentors who have problems with students who are unwilling to participate and cooperate in the classroom. It is necessary to reach them in a manner that is sympathetic and helpful. Do not act like a tyrant, but a friend who would be willing to aid and change them. After all disruptive students are not really difficult to handle, you just need to be able to earn their trust and heart.
