High school students have heard the mantra of being involved in extracurricular activities for years. They know that not being involved in outside activities might affect their chances for acceptance into the college of their choice. Becoming involved in activities in addition to their schoolwork may be something they have pursued for years, since they were youngsters.
There are students who have been involved in outside activities for years; some may have over a decade of experience. They have likely developed such a love for their outside activity that they want to pursue it even when they go away to college. They might find out that their busy college schedule doesn’t allow them time to be active in their favorite activity any more. A tough schedule, lack of transportation, or too much homework might make it impossible.
It’s true that some students may be able to integrate their studies with their outside interests or hobbies. For example, a student who played extracurricular sports may have a desire to pursue a Bachelors Degree in sports physiology or physical education. However, this still may leave students out who want to keep their educational pursuits separate from their extracurricular activities.
It might be hard for some involved students to realize that going away to college means dropping their hobbies or outside activities. Those students who want to be active in extracurricular activities while pursuing a degree might want to think about going online for their online college courses. An online degree program can give a student much more freedom in scheduling classes and lectures, leaving free time to participate in their favorite activity.
A regular degree program wouldn’t work for someone whose outside hobby requires traveling a lot. However, an online degree can offer the freedom to someone whose hobby involves traveling. Getting to a tournament or conference isn’t a problem; they just need to remember to bring their laptop with them so they can complete their assignments while at the faraway activity. All they need is an Internet connection.
Artistic students may be discouraged by scheduling conflicts of class at a traditional university; an online degree will let them work on their art when the mood strikes. Online classes offer a degree of flexibility that lets them create when they need to, and study when they need to. When an artist feels inspired, an online degree can offer the leeway they need to create when inspiration comes.
If volunteering has been a student’s passion for years, they can still participate in their organization’s activities while pursuing an online degree. In fact, being able to volunteer on a regular basis, combined with completing their on line college degree, may create a situation that offers even more opportunity than before. They may be able to turn their acumen at volunteering into a wonderful job with a non-profit organization after they graduate.
If being able to keep pursuing your hobbies is important to you, an online degree may be the best fit for your education. You may even be surprised to find that the combination of your online degree and your extracurricular activities may lead to a career you never thought was possible.
