After all the preparation, it’s time to finally take the General Management Admissions Test (GMAT). You’ve drilled and run the simulations so many times you feel you can do it in your sleep. Still, there are some things one should do that weren’t necessarily covered in your online class; things that will make taking the test a lot easier.
What one must remember in taking this test is you will be commuting to a neutral site, one not of your choosing or preference. It could be a town hall, college classroom or the annex of a library. You just can’t just stand up and grab a coke or a textbook. The goal is to make the environment as conducive to your comfort as possible. As such, you should do the following: If you need more information about online master, look on the internet.
Get A Good Night’s Sleep – Cramming and drilling is fine, but only to a point. Walking to the test facility with only 2-3 hours of sleep is a guaranteed way to make a number of mistakes you wouldn’t make if you were fresh and alert. Some breakfast doesn’t hurt either.
Get Plenty of Scrap Paper and Pens – Just because the Verbal and Quantitative parts of the GMAT are multiple choice doesn’t mean you won’t be doing some sort of calculations. Make sure you have enough supplies to be able to do all that you have to.
Scope Out the Facility and Dress In Layers – Just because it’s a sunny day outside doesn’t mean you’re testing facility’s air conditioning is working or going turbo. Freezing hands or dripping sweat on one’s scrap paper isn’t conducive to maximum performance in an exam situation. Also make sure you know where such things as the facilities and the water fountain are. It’s an all-day exam after all…and sometimes nature can’t wait all day.
Familiarize Yourself With Your Terminal – First of all, as this is an institutionalized facility, make sure such things as your mouse, monitor and keyboard are all functional BEFORE you start the exam. Is the chair going to fall apart? Do you have elbow room? Don’t be shy about maximizing your surroundings to your benefit. Also, the GMAT provides a short tutorial before you start the exam. Make sure you comfortable with it, too. There is an abundance of information about online degree on the web.
Pace Yourself – One thing you should have developed during your preparatory period is a proper pace to answer the questions. If the question seems easy, stop for a second and make sure you haven’t missed something. If it’s a real stumper, eliminate the most likely bad ones and make an educated guess. Keeping an even keel is the best way to get the best score. If you end up with a few minutes left, you’ve paced yourself just right.
True, this kind of online course and prep work isn’t going to tell you if an item belongs on the right or left side of a ledger or if you have enough data to solve a problem. Do so and you’ll get a much better exam score, which is the goal of your master business degree anyway.
