Listen To The Still, Small Voice Within

By Anne Trimble

Do you have a prayer closet? This is a quiet place to connect with God connect every day? If you don’t have one, you must make one!

During his time on our planet, Jesus climbed the mountain every day at dawn to speak with His Father. We believe this practice helped Jesus live as God while in a human body. He shared every little thing with his Father, who gave him both direction and understanding.

The Bible is the written Word of God. 2nd Timothy 2:15 says, “Study to show yourself approved unto God as a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.” God also speaks to us in our Spirit that He imparted to us when we asked the Holy Spirit to come and fill us, as Acts 2 describes. It’s that “still small voice” that Scripture describes to us. Are you listening to His still small voice in your life?

There is something you must do in order to allow God to communicate with you in His still small voice manifestation: You must know Him in His written Word, the Bible – first. God will never contradict His written Word. So if you do not know the written Word, you cannot possibly hear his still small voice – because you will not know if you are hearing his voice, your conscience or the demons who also whisper to you.

One mistake often made in attempting to determine God’s quieter voice in our hearts is to believe that we can rely on his modern-day “prophets” to contact Him on our behalf. And while this may have been true when it came to godly prophets who had the capacity to accurately confirm His Word, there are plenty of false prophets these days who can quite easily lead us astray. Jesus cautioned that they would be quite a few in the last days.

For example, Joel Osteen, the author of ” Your Best Life Now” tries to tell us what that might be. But who can define our best life when we are citizens of Heaven? Rick Warren belongs to the Council on Foreign Relations, and his loyalty has actually been purchased by the worldly powers that be. He is an adviser to former President Bill Clinton and an adviser to the Universalist One Faith Foundation established by Tony Blair, the former U.K. Prime Minister. My prayer with the passing years as I’ve observed these false prophets become important in the organized church today is that these repent and comprehend for leading the church astray.
