Learning to control frames is a process that you should refine simply because it is so powerful. Frame control in hypnosis is one of the most important things you can do with a subject.

By taking control of the frames of various interactions, you are for all intents and purposes taking control of the interactions themselves. There are several different ways to control and manipulate frames. There are four main aspects to working with frames; to preframe, maintain your frame, deframe, and reframe. The two that are the most important and powerful to your conversational hypnosis are preframing and maintaining your frame.

The first option you want to exercise is maintaining your frame. In order to do so, you will have to be armed with non-reaction. This is to act as if the frame that your subject is suggesting doesn’t exist and this in turn will make them raise questions about their frame and put much more value on the one you are suggesting.

By ignoring the fact that their frame is of consideration will cause insecurities in their own frame and reinforce your stance.

Preframing requires more calculation and thought compared to maintaining your frame. If you can assume and imply then frequently your frame will take your word subconsciously, and will be ready to believe your suggestions.

Next step in framing is the reframe. Now it’s time to shed positive light on a frame that was previously viewed as negative by your subject. A context reframe is when you rearrange the context that the frame is in.

Deframing is the final way in which you will manipulate and control frame. To deframe is to turn the tables on the subject that is raising objections about your frame. You simply reverse the role, switch the challenge. As the subject raises a challenge about your frame, instead of attempting to explain it, simply challenge their own frame.

The only thing you have to be careful about with deframing is to maintain that positive or light attitude, or else you can easily look negative or aggressive, and this will not bode well with your hypnotic subject’s trust and comfort with you.
