There are numerous avoidable physical and mental disorders that we can develop, all thanks to our own body’s defense mechanism to stress. The stress response is actually healthy because we are able to run away from or fight threats. It becomes unhealthy, when the threat isn’t real. Certain situations activate the stress response, and being in those stressful situations for too long can lead to the rapid deterioration of our body for constantly enabling us to perform way beyond our limits. The agitated state that we are in, for instance, can progress to anxiety disorders or paranoia – bother are stress-related conditions.

To offset the effects of stress, all we need to do is relax. There are a few categories upon which stress management techniques are based on, and relaxation is the most popular so far. Relaxation methods can come in the form of listening to music, taking up a hobby, creative expression, or going away to get in touch with nature. Simple relaxation methods include massage, soaking in the bath tub, or simply resting. As far as relaxation techniques go, meditation is the most popular of all. No other relaxation technique can perhaps match meditation, except hypnosis.

Hypnosis is the practice of achieving a trance-like state similar to meditation. One difference between them is that you can fully rely on the hypnotist to put you in such a trance while achieving the relaxing trance in meditation will still depend on you. To further elaborate, here are the advantages of hypnosis:

Relaxation: One of the reasons that make hypnosis a powerful stress management tool is it’s a good relaxation tool. While it is infamous for putting you to a sleepwalking state, it’s actually a state of intense focus while your muscles are relaxed. When your muscles are relaxed, plus you are focusing on anything but the stressors you have, you will automatically feel relaxed.

Behavior-Changing: Hypnosis holds the advantage over meditation as an experience where your outlook on life is changed. If you didn’t know, thought modification is by far the most effective stress management technique – and also the most difficult to achieve. Under hypnosis you are more open to suggestions. This can help you get over life events that caused you stress, the same way it is being used to help people quit smoking or drinking.

Hypnosis relaxation methods are usually avoided because people are scared of the idea. The truth is, it puts you in a heightened conscious state, so you will never be able to do anything you don’t want to do. If you’re still scared, try self-hypnosis. You’ll be amazed with what you get.
