Getting In Shape The Sensible Way
By Kathy Smith
The new year is speedily approaching and when it arrives many people today will set the goal to exercise more regularly. People know that they ought to get more exercise, but they just don’t feel inspired to get out there and get moving. They find exercise to be annoying, inconvenient, or just plain boring. Each new year, people face the same challenge of how to get fit.
For myself, the secret strategy that took the difficulty out of exercise was to use motivational pictures to pump up my mental motivation to go train. About 30 minutes just before exercising, pump yourself up by picturing how strong, alert, and very clear headed you will be after working out.
Close your eyes and use performance pictures like observing yourself in a powerful and healthy body or looking at yourself falling asleep very easily at bedtime after a hard workout. Picture your heart beating in your chest at this moment and then think about how it will beat much stronger and better and pump more blood and vigor through your body after doing exercises.
Or perhaps, if you are seeking to reshape your physique, then try a few motivational images of yourself looking good in your favorite clothes, or see yourself in a bathing suit, confidently walking by the water’s perimeter. Envision how good it would feel to have a flatter abdomen or toned arms. Envision how great it will be to no longer be self-conscious about your body’s imperfections and to be able to meet people with assurance and be relaxed in your own body.
One more really good performance image is to picture your body standing while in front of a full length mirror – entirely undressed! Picture your body firmer, healthier, and more young-looking. Then, take it a step even further and envision undressing your in shape body before your partner and think of how excellent that will feel. In case you really want to have a great time with this, write “look better naked” on a piece of paper and tape it to your bathroom mirror.
